Prison and Drug Economy Expert Catherine Austin Fitts on UhuruRadio.com

Listen live this Sunday, July 20th at 4pm EST on http://www.uhururadio.com

This week on Solidarity Not Charity Penny Hess will interview Catherine Austin Fitts, former Wall Street investment banker and Assistant Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under the administration of George Herbert Walker Bush.

Ms. Fitts talks about the enormous profits made by Wall Street and government officials through the multi-billion dollar prison and illegal drug economies at the expense of the African community. She exposes how mandatory minimum and three strikes laws used to lock up young black men boost stock prices for Wall Street firms invested in the prison and drug economy, and how these same Wall Street banks are currently being bailed out by the U.S. government after fleecing black people in the sub-prime scam.
Fencing-Out the "Aliens": another lesson of ignorance, futility and profiteering

"The ongoing promotion of a bad idea does NOT make it a better option!" --- Dr. Peter Stern

Despite the majority of public opinion AGAINST building the border fence between Mexico and The United States, it appears Americans will get the fence whether or not they want it or even if it won't work keeping out illegal immigrants, which it won't.

http://www.woai.com:80/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=48d27b13-b507-4ef7-8458-f7a52310494f

Like so many other urgent issues, our elected officials refuse to look for rational and significant resolutions for the increasing and overwhelming numbers of illegals entering the U.S. every year.

What no one seems interested in looking at:

People's Movement Assembly

Start: 01/26/2008 - 8:00pm

On Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, there will be global actions against injustice
in response to a call by the World Social Forum for the peoples of the world
to act in unison against war, poverty, exploitation, and environmental
degradation.

Atlanta, host city of the first US Social Forum, will be the
venue for a statewide People's Movement Assembly, beginning with a
caravan and rally at the state capitol.

Initiated by the organizers of the
annual Poor People's Day events at the
Capitol and inspired by 2008 being
the 40th anniversary of the historic Poor
People's Campaign for Economic
Justice launched by Dr. King, this multi-pronged
effort seeks to bring the
voice, aspirations, needs and demands of millions
of working and poor people
to the Georgia Capitol.

Following the caravan and rally, participants will
meet to exchange views,
plan ongoing actions and cement relationships and
networks.
Hundreds of volunteers are needed throughout the state to mobilize
their
communities.

Wednesday, Nov. 21

6pm, 1 year Anniversary Vigil and Press Conference in front of
Kathryn Johnston's Home, 933 Neal St.

Killed by Atlanta drug squad cops in her living room, 92-year old
Johnston's murder is symbolic of the racist and reckless disregard for
life police authorities have for those who live in poor and working class
neighborhoods especially if they are people of color.

Opening event of the CEASEFIRE: STOP POLICE TERRORISM CAMPAIGN, a national
effort to unite all those working on issues of police brutality. Lasting 5 days
to mark the 1 year anniversaries of Kathryn Johnston's murder by police on Nov.
21 and that of Sean Bell on the eve of his wedding, Nov. 25, in NYC.

Start: 11/26/2007 - 2:00pm

Monday, Nov. 26

2pm, rally, "Keep Grady Public," Grady Hospital.

3:30pm, pack the Hospital Authority Board meeting, inside Grady
Hospital.

Grady Hospital, the safety net health care facility for uninsured,
underinsured and indigent people in the Atlanta, is under attack by the big
business community including major development and banking interests and their
politicians. Their solution to Grady's financial crisis is to turn the
policy-making body into a privately-run, self-perpetuating board which would
have full authority to cut services and reduce staff. This is not acceptable.
Grady Hospital needs to be fully funded at the local, state and federal level in
order to serve the healthcare needs of everyone.

It is expected that the Hospital Authority will be voting on whether to
privatize Grady at this meeting. Grady is your hospital. Let your voice be
heard!

14 arrested at the School of the Americas protest

Early Sunday morning, 10 human rights activists got around the 12' high chain link and barbed wire gates that were erected at the main gate of Fort Benning in an attempt to bring the protest directly to the School of the Americas, located on the base. They were arrested by military police, and will face charges of trespass and up to 6 months in federal prison.

Their names are Le Ann Clausen, Diane Lopez Hughes, Stephen Schweitzer, Gus Roddy, Ozone Bhaguan, Arthur Landis, Chris Lieberman, Michelle Yipe, Ed Lewinson, and Joan Anderson.

During the funeral procession and vigil, Tiel Rainelli, 25, climbed the barbed wire fence to cross over, bringing the total to 11 arrested by military police.

In an incident that illustrates the increased harrassment by the Columbus police, three more SOA Watch activists face charges for refusing to relinquish crosses at the vigil site whose size exceeded Columbus police regulations.

Rufina Amaya – Presente! at School of the Americas Protest at Fort Benning

The 18th annual protest against the School of the Americas brought thousands from all over the US, Central and South America to the main gate of Fort Benning in Columbus Georgia.

Sunday's main activity was a solmn funeral procession and memorial for those who have been dissappeared, tortured, murdered or massacared by graduates of the School of the Americas (WHINSEC), who were trained by the US military in "counterinsurgency" techniques at Fort Benning. Thousands crowded the street in front of the gate to bring wreaths, flowers, crosses with the names of the victims and other such remembrances to the school. The names of thousands of victims were read aloud during the procession, as the chant of Presente! followed each name to signify that the victims are still present in sprit and not forgotten.
